Welcome to Southwest Ranches
One of the newest municipalities in Broward County, Florida. After an overwhelming response from its residents on March 14, 2000, the area known as unincorporated Broward County finally became its own town.
According to the 2010 US Census Report, there are nearly 7,345 residences, which encompass roughly 13 square miles. Boundaries extend from S. Flamingo Road to US-27 and from Griffin Road to Sheridan Street. The town of Southwest Ranches' principal location provides easy access to major attractions such as the Sawgrass Mills Mall, BB&T Center, and Fort Lauderdale Beach via I-75 or I-595.
Despite being “out in the country,” as some buyers have put it, Southwest Ranches is only 15 minutes from Hollywood-Fort Lauderdale International Airport and only 30 minutes from Miami International Airport. It is only 5-10 minutes from all the conveniences of Weston and Davie.
Although lot sizes vary from one acre to over 20 acres, there is an ordinance in place that restricts certain sections of the town to either one-acre or two-and-one-half-acre sites, which will never change. Zoning for the community is predominantly rural residential and agricultural, with very light industrial and limited commercial use. The magnitude of the lots had the greatest influence on the property values. Single-family homes range anywhere from $800,000 to over 25 million respectively.
One thing is clear, Southwest Ranches has thrived on protecting its rural way of life. Until today their motto of no sidewalks, no curbs, or streetlights is evident. Yet, although some limitations do exist, the town is filled with several equestrian parks and horse trails with an abundance of grazing animals, nurseries, farms, and equestrian facilities. If you are contemplating relocating to the community but are apprehensive about education or the school system, relax, Southwest Ranches has the top-rated schools at every level.
Finally, if you are not into wildlife or listening to donkeys braying and roosters crowing at first light, then Southwest Ranches isn't for you.
